Cannon, who is a rapper and actor and best known for hosting NBC’s America’s Got Talent, shared a message with his followers on Twitter, saying he believed his son was in a better place. “My family and I are coping as a family in this time of deep sorrow. Please keep us in your prayers,” he wrote.

Nick Cannon (@NickCannon) Thank you so much for all of your kind words, prayers and support. I have received an outpouring of love & support from my fans, friends, family and fans around the world. It truly means the world to me.

He followed this with another tweet, saying: “I believe my son Kion [is] in a better place.”

The 6ft 3in TV host and rapper married Mariah Carey in 2008 and welcomed their son Kion James on 6 March last year. TMZ reported that Cannon had taken his baby to the hospital last week, citing reports saying Kion had a collapsed lung and liver.

Nick Cannon (@NickCannon) I believe my son Kion (KJ) is in a better place. Grieving in the best way that I know how. Please keep us in your prayers.

The site said Cannon’s wife rushed her son to hospital but his organs failed and he died on Monday. His body is being kept in a mortuary to allow Cannon’s family to say goodbye to him privately.

Nick Cannon & Mariah Carey (@NickCannon) My children are my everything. I am grateful for all the love and support that we have received from all of our fans and friends. RIP Kion.

Cannon will host the latest season of America’s Got Talent while Carey is still on maternity leave.
